Overview

A small hill site in the beautiful Himachal Pradesh state, Paonta Sahib is a popular Sikh pilgrimage center and a town packed with tons and tons of attractions that attract the attention of many a tourist from all over the world. Erected in honor of the Sikh’s tenth guru, Guru Gobind Singh, the Guru Gobind Singh Ji is believed to have lived here for four years. The guru has written that hunting in the wild forests and writing poetry were a great experience as long as I remained here enjoying the beautiful surroundings. Pilgrims can also appreciate the holy shrine’s pleasant environment, verdant beauty and tall evergreen trees. Within the temple complex, there is a major darbar, where guru will sit with 52 poets. Another attraction is the sahib of Sri Talab where Guruji will give out his soldiers earnings.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji has described his time in the city in his memoirs as the happiest years of his life in which he witnessed diverse amusements. The place where the Gurdwara now stands, is where Guru Ji and his family lived. The gurdwara also has a museum with the antiquities of war and other weapons of Guru Ji. The Palki on which Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the religious Sikh text, is held is made from pure gold. The best time to pay a visit with friends or families to Paonta Sahib is from mid May to mid October.

Assan Lake: Assan Lake A relaxing place near Paonta Sahib, Assan Lake has many fun and entertaining activities to draw tourists from far and large. In addition, travelers will dive into a wide variety of cuisines served in the restaurant located within the lake’s premises.

Fossil Park: Situated about 30 miles from Paonta Sahib on the banks of the Markanda River, Fossil Park has a spectacular view of the flora and fauna in its museum.

Sirmour: A charming site in the Himachal Pradesh province, Sirmour is renowned for its numerous architectural ruins. Owing to deluge, it is assumed that they were destroyed in the 11th century.

Simbalbara Wildlife Sanctuary: Simbalbara Wildlife Sanctuary is another popular attraction, nestled almost no distance from the Paonta Sahib. It is visited during the year by many ornithologists and bird-lovers.
