Overview

Kangra is a Himachal Pradesh district with Dharamshala as the headquarters for administration. Kangra is situated in northern India, in the western part of the state of Himachal Pradesh. It is located about 18 km south of Dharamshala. Kangra is also famous for the backdrop of Dhauladar range, ancient temples and endless tea plantations with mighty Beas River flowing through the Valley. In the holy Hindu scriptures, frequent mention of the Valley, present Kangra as ‘Devbhumi,’ or Land of the Gods. Kangra is a district within its boundaries which encompasses Dharamshala and McleodGanj. The beautiful tea plantations are located in Palampur and surrounding area 36 km from Kangra city.

Jwala Devi temple, most famous of them all, is known for its eternal flame which burns for years without any known fuel source. The temple has called into question scientific theories. Also kangra is renowned for its temple of Vajreshwari Devi (Kangra Devi). Since the original temple was demolished in a devastating earthquake, the present temple on the same site is being reconstructed. Travelers will enjoy the panoramic view of the surrounding area which includes the Manjhi and Baner Rivers confluence.
