The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is one of the most auspicious & arduous pilgrimage. Located in Tibet (China) at an altitude of 21, 778 feet above sea level, Mt. Kailash is believed the abode of Lord Shiva & Mata Parvati. There is lot of stories & mention about Mt. Kailash in our ancient literatures including our holy Purans. According to Vishnu Puran, Lord Shiva meditates in the mountain in a state of absolute bliss.
Interestingly, no one in the world could climb to the peak of Mt. Kailash till now.
The mount Kailash is not only the sacred place for Hindus but the first Jain guru Rishab Dev gained the nirvana at this place only. Mount Meru is the name given to the Mt. Kailash by Buddhists. This location is referred to as Demchok, or the sacred adobe of the Buddhist Cakrasamvara. This location is referred to as Kang Rampoche or Precious Jewel by the Tibetan people.
There are several routes from Delhi, Nepal and Uttar Pradesh to Kailash Mansarovar. The route goes through Nepal. A valid Passport, Yatra Permit & Chinese Visa is mandatory for visitors entering Tibet. Most of the devotees start their Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from Kathmandu.
From October to March, the region experiences extremely severe weather, making it nearly impossible to visit during that time. The Yatras typically take place from May through September. The average daytime temperature throughout the summer months varies from 5 to 18 degrees. The temperature fluctuates from -1 to 10 degrees at night.
The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra starts from May month & end in October every year. However, the summer months of May & June are the best period. However, it’s best to stay away from the monsoon season specially in case of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra by Helicopter. Once more, September and early October are ideal months to visit the sacred site.
