The five-story Tazia Tower, situated at the beautiful Badal Palace complex, has its significance in Jaisalmer. Tazia tower is a replica of the tomb of different Muslim imams with intricate carvings on the tombstone walls that represent rich ancient art made of thermocol, wood and colored papers. The Badal Palace near the Amar Sagar Gate has a cloud-like look, from which the Tazia Tower rises. This tower is entirely different from Rajasthan ‘s typical Rajputana architecture. These were homes constructed by Muslim craftsmen to the royal families of Rajasthan who gave it a Tazia type as a sign of their faith.
Tazia in Urdu means float which was taken during Muharram’s procession. The Muslim artisans designed the balcony framework in the shape of a Tazia and gave it to the Badal Palace Royal Patrons. Every floor has a balcony famous for its architecture and with each of its models intricately designed, the whole structure has Islamic touch to it. On the other side, the Badal Palace is a cluster of structures with defined over-walls carvings.
