Tawang is a lovely land with beautiful scenery, panoramic mountains, villages of clams, calm lakes and magical gompas. Between them all, the Tawang Monastery is one monastery that steals the limelight. That monastery is Arunachal Pradesh’s most popular monastery. The common tourist attraction is the famous Tawang Monastery, and it was built by Merak Lama Lodre Gyamtso. Undoubtedly, the monastery seems like a fort from afar, shimmering like a mini-kingdom with royalty. After Borobudur in Indonesia, Tawang Monastery at Arunachal Pradesh is ranked second largest monastery in the world.
This kingdom has several buildings inside the premises but the ‘Dukhang’ or assembly hall is the most prominent one. It is also the monastery ‘s main building and is similarly distinguished by outstanding works of art. Within Dukhang ‘s walls you can see drawings of many Bodhisattvas and saints. Most importantly Lord Buddha’s giant statue sits peacefully in the middle of the Monastery’s northern side.
