Jagdish temple is a very large Hindu temple located in the center of Udaipur, in Rajasthan state. It is a popular tourist attraction once known as the Jagannath Rai temple but is now renamed the Jagdish Ji temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu also known as the universe preserver. The shrine’s gateway can be seen from the City Palace Bara Pol which is 150 m away. This massive temple is constructed in the architectural style of the Indo-Aryans. Udaipur’s skyline is dominated by the main temple’s 79-foot high spire, or shikhar. When one enters the temple, there will be two massive stone elephants at the entrance to welcome you.
Today’s entire system acts not only as a place of worship but also as an introduction into the people of the past society. It shows how highly they regarded architecture as a way of expressing sentiments; it cost Jagat Singh 1.5 million rupees to construct this temple. It is a beautiful temple, and when in Udaipur it is a must see. Do include a visit to this temple during your City Palace tour. It is open almost all day-from 5.30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
