The Gangtey Monastery is situated atop a hill at an altitude of 2800 meter.It is also known as Gangtey Goenpa is an important monastery of Nyingmapa school of Buddhism. Gangtey Monastery offers a stunning view of Phobjikha valley and also winter home to the rare Black Necked Cranes. It is said that the Black Cranes circle the monastery three times when they come and three times when they leave. Tsechu and the Black Necked Crane festival (in which young children dress up as the cranes to welcome their arrival) are the main festival of the Gangtey.
