One of Mount Abu’s most-visited pilgrimage sites, the Gaumukh Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The key attraction of this temple is the holy 700-step climb, as it provides both a panoramic view of the surrounding valley and is popular for the year-round religious pilgrimages and meditation. The mysterious stream of water falling from a marble bull ‘s mouth is dedicated to Nandi, Lord Shiva ‘s divine bull in the Hindu mythology. Therefore, the Gaumukh Temple is popular among both devotees of Lord Shiva and tourists who wish to explore the holy mystery site.

Built as a dedication to Saint Vashishth, the Gaumukh Temple performed a yagna that created the four major Rajput clans. Legend has it that the Yagna was done to seek the blessings of gods and goddesses for earth’s safety. Yagna was conducted in the Agni Kund that is one of the temple’s main attractions. The Ramayana Legend tells us that Ram Vanvas and Lakshman came to this place during Ram Vanvas to attain Gyan and blessings from Rishi Vashistha who resided here.
