Nestled in the Himalayan Ranges, Sri Hemkund Sahib is a holy pilgrimage that is worshipped annually by thousands of Sikhs. Literally meaning ‘Lake of Ice,’ this world’s highest Gurudwara is located at an altitude of 4329 meters above sea level and lies in the snow-clad mountains backdrop. Also known as Gurudwara Shri Hemkunt Sahib, the shrine can be reached by trekking through numerous waterfalls, dense forests and captivating Himalayan views. The gurudwara is open between May and October only for a few months, and closes during the harsh winter months.

According to the ‘Bachitra Natak,’ Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s autobiography, Hemkund Sahib was the location that housed the seven snow peaks in his previous birth where he meditated on. Despite its relatively perilous terrain and harsh cold climate, thousands of pilgrims visit the Hemkund Sahib each year to witness the lake’s crystal-clear water and seek the Almighty ‘s blessings.
