The Fateh Sagar Lake is considered to be the second largest lake in this area, located on Lake Pichola’s northern side and just opposite Moti Magri Mahal’s entrance. Constructed in 1678 by Maharana Jai Singh, this artificial lake has got its name from Maharana Fateh Singh. This body of water has a depth of 11.5 metres, reaching 2,4 km in length and 1,6 km in width. A boat can easily enter the three tiny islands on the lake. The broad lake island has a garden and a restaurant in the shape of a boat called Nehru Park. Even this island has a small zoo and is a popular picnic spot for locals.
The lake’s second island has been transformed into a beautiful garden with plenty of water jet fountains and is being looked after by the state government. The third island is operated by the Solar Observatory of Udaipur which is regarded as Asia’s best solar observation site. This is a peaceful place and you can enjoy a cruise by boat here. The magnificent lake is encircled on all three sides by hills and provides a breathtaking view that is considered places to visit in Udaipur.
