City Palace

The City Palace in Udaipur, situated on the banks of Lake Pichola, is considered to be Rajasthan’s largest Royal complex. Maharana Uday Singh built the magnificent palace in 1559, and acted as the main seat of power from where the Maharanas resided and ruled the kingdom. Afterwards, his successors made the palace even more magnificent, adding a variety of buildings to it. The Palace now boasts a number of Mahals, courtyards, pavilions, halls, terraces, rooms and hanging gardens. There is also a museum here that displays some of the finest elements of Rajput art and culture-from vibrant paintings to traditional Rajasthani palaces architecture.

Located in the Aravallis bosom, the City Palace’s granite and marble building stands out against its quaint natural surroundings. Regal Palace’s complex architecture is a delicate blend of medieval, European and Chinese styles and embellished with various domes, arches and towers. The City Palace itself sits on a lush green garden plot, and is an amazing sight to behold. The regal beauty of this attraction also has quite a few fans in the film industry and many films like ‘Guide’ and ‘Octopussy’ were shot here. The Udaipur City Palace, a gentle amalgam of architectural brilliance and rich heritage, is a wonderful trip down the pages of history.
